What does Mazzei's FAA Part 141 Approval and
FAA Examining Authority Mean to You?
Golden Eagle Enterprises, Inc. dba Mazzei Flying Service is FAA Approved; under Air Agency Certificate number CUES026D, from Private through Commercial /Flight Instructor for both airplane and helicopter. It is important to know that our flight school is FAA Approved by choice, not because it is required.
Unlike many operators that choose to operate their schools loosely under FAR Part 61, we have chosen to be a FAA Approved School since 1972, which under Federal Air Regulations Part 141 requires: an approved flight training syllabus for each course, instructor standardization, supervision and stage checks by the Chief or Assistant Chief Flight Instructor, and regular FAA inspections of school facilities, aircraft, simulators and training devices, as well as student training records, and instructor records.
To insure the quality of training and to retain FAA Approval, our school must maintain at least an 80% first time pass rate for all graduates on FAA Flight Tests and a 90% pass rate for Examining Authority. Under FAR Part 141 the FAA grants Approved Pilot Schools many important concessions in course hours and requirements. For example, the FAA grants a 60 hour reduction in the basic Part 61 commercial pilot requirements for Part 141 Schools.
FAA Examining Authority
Because of the outstanding performance of our graduates, Mazzei Flying Service is one of only a few FAA Approved Pilot Schools in the U.S. who have Examining Authority Approval. This special FAA Approval allows our school to graduate and certificate our students in certain courses without the added burden and expense of having to take a practical test with an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner. In other words, in our school all you need to do is complete your training and graduate and you will automatically be issued your certificate or rating without further testing, This added benefit saves our students both time and money.
FAA Approved Ground Training
In our FAA Approved Ground School courses MFS uses the state of the art Jeppesen ground training system. This system is an integrated course of flight and ground instruction utilizing a training syllabus, video and CD ROM presentations, textbook and workbook exercises, written stage exams, and one-on-one briefings and tutorials with your assigned flight instructor. The system is designed for either group classroom training sessions or individual one-on-one training sessions with your instructor.
At Mazzei Flying Service we utilize the ground training option that is most appropriate for each student. The majority of our full-time students find the greatest benefit in the group classroom environment. The advantages to the average student are found in cost effectiveness and a nearly 3-1 hourly advantage over one-on-one instruction. There is much more time and far greater opportunity for learning the material presented in a classroom setting. For the average student the group classroom training option results in a higher knowledge level and faster overall course completion. The classroom instruction approach also frees more flight instructors for in-flight training, which greatly improves student scheduling and increases the frequency of flying for all students.
For certain courses, and/or for those students with a college-level education and proven study habits, the individual one-on-one training approach may offer certain advantages over group classroom training. It can provide a greater flexibility in start dates, ease in scheduling for students with conflicting work/school schedules, and the potential for more rapid completion of a flight training program. But one-on-one training places a greater degree of responsibility on the student to study and prepare for each training session. The flight instructor’s role is to supervise the overall ground training, explaining key points in the text, answering student questions, and helping students in the application of airman knowledge. To benefit from this option, students must be self-motivated and responsible for maintaining their own ground training schedule. One-on-one ground training is available only upon request and only after a meeting with our Chief Flight Instructor to determine its suitability and benefit for the student.
All Mazzei students, whether receiving their ground training in group or individual sessions, also receive one-on-one pre-flight and post-flight briefings with their assigned instructors; as well as specially scheduled course briefings and stage check briefings.
So whether it is our regular classroom ground school approach or our one-on-one training option that is most appropriate to your own situation; we are confident that you will find the Jeppesen and Mazzei training method to be the very best combination for providing you with the knowledge and skills essential for a successful aviation career.
